Spicing Up My Save With ChatGPT-made Images

You’ve scouted your perfect wonderkid, but when his face pops up, he’s stuck with the same soulless mug as everyone else. Are you ready to fix that once and for all?

If you’ve been playing Football Manager for a few years (or a few decades), you know the thrill of unearthing a wonderkid. Maybe he’s a two-footed Brazilian winger with 18 flair, or a Norwegian centre-back who dominates in the air. You’ve got his development plan mapped out. You’re already imagining the headlines when he scores the Champions League winner.

Then you click his profile… and boom. There it is, staring back at you like a cardboard cutout in a shop window… that same bland, dead-eyed face you’ve seen a thousand times. In an instant, your future superstar transforms from the next Messi into just another cell in Excel

Don’t get me wrong; Football Manager’s core appeal has always been the depth of its data and the stories you create. But visuals do matter, especially for long-term saves. A unique face can make a newgen feel like a real character in your narrative, not just another row in the player search list.

I mean, why would you settle for this?

When you can have this?

Traditionally, the FM community has relied on facepacks to inject personality into newgens. Download a megapack, overwrite some folders, cross your fingers it doesn’t break your game.

Facepacks are great. But they’re static. You’re still limited to pre-existing images, assigned randomly or semi-randomly. Sure, it’s nice to avoid those haunting default regen faces, but it’s hardly bespoke.

You can use Midjourney or a similar graphical generative AI to make your newgen faces for you, but most of those are not for free. This alternative is. It is a custom GPT within ChatGPT; you can find it here.

You might assume it’s technical wizardry beyond mortal FM managers. Nope. The process is surprisingly straightforward:

1. Identify Your Newgen
   Pick your newgen in-game and screenshot him.
2. Upload your screenshot to the Custom GPT
   It really is as simple as the orange buffoon running one of the most powerful countries in the world.
3. Let the Custom GPT work its magic
   You will have to answer a few basic questions and you are pretty much good to go.
4. Download the Image
   Save the generated image in the correct FM graphics folder, following your usual facepack structure.
5. Regenerate Config File
   Use tools like FM XML or FM Graphics Configurator to point your game to the new image.
6. Enjoy Your Masterpiece
   Reload your skin in-game and see your custom newgen face appear.

Suddenly, your five-star wonderkid looks like a five-star wonderkid.

The only downside is that, as a free user, you can generate two of these cards a day per account you use.
